How does one start on the path of spiritual enlightenment?

Christians generally do not talk about enlightenment. Though they do talk about spiritual concerns. Enlightenment, to me, means a knowledge of the truth. The God that Christians claim to worship tells in His book, The Holy Bible, that God's word ITSELF is truth. Also, Jesus said of HIMSELF...that He is the truth. The Bible further states that UNDERSTANDING (a synonym for WISDOM) is the most important thing. Especially in reference to the Bible itself. Simply reading the Bible without proper understanding is almost a waste of time. God Himself (God is a spirit.) must give the reader wisdom to understand His word. Otherwise all their efforts will be for nothing.
