Should i do this to him or is it just too strange?

so i really really like this guy who is a sophmore and im a freshmen. we've talked alittle over myspace, because he used to go to school with a friend of mine. and i've waved to him at school but not actually talked to him in person. everyone i ask though says he likes me cause he stares, points to me when with guy friends, and etc. so the sadie hawkins dance is coming up and i already asked a guy friend, but i found out the guy i like doesnt have a date. cause he basically screamed it by me.... and i turned around and he was looking at me. so i was thinking maybe if he goes to the dance alone i'd walk up to him kiss him on the cheek and say talkings overrated. and walk away leaving him there right after i kiss him. What do u think? is that too weird? or is it kinda hott?
